eCampus for Dental Education supporting multidisciplinary
team-based learning and evidence-based treatment planning

EDEMTET (eCampus for Dental Education supporting multidisciplinary team-based learning and evidence-based treatment planning) addresses the joint European and Chinese need for modernized curricula and in particular the needs for integration of didactically sound online learning, a multidisciplinary approach to oral treatment, team-based learning and development of 21st century skills.

In this video, Professor Nico Creugers explains the main topics that EDEMTET eCampus addresses: Clinical Reasoning, Evidence Based Practice and Contextual Factors. What exactly do we mean by these concepts?  Why are they so important to oral health care? How are they related to each other? And how will they be taught in the EDEMTET e-campus?

EDEMTET UPDATES

WHAT IS EDEMTET?

EDEMTET (eCampus for Dental Education supporting multidisciplinary team-based learning and evidence-based treatment planning) addresses the joint European and Chinese need for modernized curricula and in particular the needs for integration of didactically sound online learning, a multidisciplinary approach to oral treatment, team-based learning and development of 21st century skills.

The eCampus will be an innovative open online learning environment that promotes critical thinking, and implement international online team-based learning and a multidisciplinary approach to evidence based treatment planning and clinical decision making. Through the platform, information will be transferred from didactic to clinical settings and between various countries and cultures, in order to enhance the knowledge, skills and performance of students, dental teachers and dentists and to improve the quality of clinical decisions in the field of dentistry. Besides, EDEMTET includes a research platform and infrastructure to advance the knowledge base on effects of dental education, and on cross-cultural, evidence based and multidisciplinary treatment planning. Both researchers and students will use the data collected through the eCampus system for research purposes.

The eCampus will boost virtual and in-person mobility and cooperation between dental schools in China and Europe and beyond. The eCampus will provide well-structured courses and open educational resources and is emphatically designed to cover more medical fields in the future. It will utilize modern web technology and open online tools and build on state of the art integrated online-learning systems. The contents of the educational program will be made available by a network of Chinese and European dental schools and China’s national dental association. The main element is an interactive treatment planning module, where international teams of students learn through mutual peer feedback on case-based treatment plans and clinical decisions.
